Windows Server 2003 administrators often need to deploy software or operating systems to several different computers on a network. Rather than slowly distributing a physical copy of a software disc, you can set up a virtual drive everyone on the network can access and use to install programs or download files. Virtual drives work with disc image files such as ISOs and operate as an entirely digital disc drive, requiring no additional hard drive or physical discs. Mounting an ISO in Windows Server 2003 requires downloading and installing virtual drive software on the system.
Step 1
Locate and download a virtual drive program. Software that works with Windows Server 2003 includes proprietary software such as Alcohol 120% and PowerISO, and free options including ImgBurn and Daemon-Tools Lite.
Step 2
Install the software to the server's hard drive using the downloaded file and open it.
Step 3
Select the 'Mount' option from the software's menu and browse to the ISO file you wish to use. If you have a physical CD or DVD instead of an ISO file, most virtual drive programs can also create ISOs from a physical disc. A mounted ISO will behave the same as a physical disc would in another drive.

Step 4
Open 'My Computer' from the Start Menu and scroll down to the 'Devices with removable storage' section.
Right-click on the new virtual drive and choose 'Sharing and Security.' Check the sharing box to give network users access to the drive.
Tip
- Drive sharing will not work if your server does not have its permissions and network controls set up correctly. You can modify these settings from the Network section of the Control Panel.

I need to run a server 2003 VM from server 2008 on VirtualBox. I only have access to a network share containing the windows server 2003 installation files, but unfortunately no iso or physical disk. Any ideas on how to perform the install?
I was able to install 2003 on a physical box by creating a bootable usb installer using a freeware utility called wintoflash. However, VirtualBox will not boot a VM from USB, so I can't use it in this instance.
The setup files are in a share that I can only access while being joined to the domain. Since I have no OS running in the VM, I can't join the domain. I've copied the share locally, but I can't access the setup files from the VM without sharing the folder using guest additions. So once again the lack of an OS on the VM precludes me from accessing the setup files.
I'm out of ideas :)

Download Windows Server 2003 Iso
Unfortunately all of the programs for making iso's mentioned below either won't make bootable isos, or won't do so without purchase. I need something free. It's for my job, and I won't pay for this just on principle. The particular company I work for.. well.. let's just say that there's really no reason there should not be an easier way to install server 2003 from inside their domain and leave it at that :)
I may have found my own solution with BartPE. I was able to create a bootable ISO by pointing it at the installation files, however I haven't read the documentation so I'm not sure yet how to use it to install 2003.

Folder2Iso is a no install iso creator that works awesome.
You can use the files to make a bootable ISO, then use it on VirtualBox. You should check the mkisofs man page in order to make the ISO image, there's a parameter to flag it as bootable.
Also you can also make it with nero, create a new CD/DVD Bootable disc project, add the files and write it to an standard iso image, then move it to you linux system and use it with virutalbox. sorry for not answering in time, out of the city for work and had no time to check this
Make an .Iso with the installation files then use Daemon Tools
DAEMON Tools is an advanced application for Microsoft Windows which provides one of the best optical media emulation in the industry.
I finally found a tool that I was able to make work without having to buy software. nLite. It allowed me to very easily create a bootable 2003 iso and I got it installed in virtual box in no time flat. Highly recommended if you ever need to make a Windows installer iso. Thanks for all the help!

From Microsoft:The Windows Server 2003 R2 PSDK is a minor upgrade that adds a few features targeted for the Windows Server 2003 R2 release. Therefore issues you might have encountered with the Windows Server 2003 SP1 SDK and Visual Studio 2005 are for the most part unchanged with this release. The release still includes the 64 bit compilers that released with the SP1 SDK, ( it does not include x86 compilers).
Although these compilers are on the same code base as the ones later released in Visual Studio 2005 the Visual Studio compilerss continued to have enhancements introduced to them, long after these were released, you will find differences between them. (For example if you use the VS 2005 compilers, and the VC libraries from VS 2005 you will not need to link to bufferoverflowu.lib. While it is perfectly acceptable to continue to use these compilers for production code you should consider moving to the enhanced versions in Visual Studio 2005. This version is the first release on CNET Download.com.
